#2520 Unique Texas Bed and Breakfast with extended stay business in a historic oil boom town!

This Bed and Breakfast and extended stay establishment is located in a thriving west Texas community of almost 8,000 friendly citizens. The main edifice was constructed in 1929 to serve as an apartment building. The two story red brick inn has been deftly adapted into a five guest room, all with private baths; (two suites with sitting rooms and three single rooms), large open kitchen, formal dining room, sitting area, and a desirable accommodating innkeeper’s suite.

Renovation began in 1996. Extensive repairs were made, bathrooms added, original wood floors refinished, structural improvements, comprehensive internal cosmetic treatments, and other major capital investments to prepare the new inn for a grand opening in 1997.

The main house has excellent highway frontage and visibility to those with reservations seeking their destination or for drop-ins searching for a stopping point for comfortable night stay. The solid construction of the exterior and interior walls characteristic of 1929 building standards, mute the white noise of most all traffic on this host city’s main street.

Guests enter through the centered full glass paneled front door into a welcoming cozy vestibule with access to the stairway, sitting room or the Walker Suite. The multi-purpose sitting room, decorated in rich greens and lace, is that special place for gathering to watch TV, play piano, enjoy a classic screen gem, or dive into a new novel.

The Walker Suite’s amenities include a queen size antique oak bed, wooden sleigh bed, cozy sitting room, accented with warm earth tones and additional unique furnishings. The private bath occupies a spare space, thus enhancing this suites size and popularity.

The Rustic Room is also on the west side of the house. Western denim’s make one right at home with queen size, four poster antique cedar bed, private bath, and closet space. This boudoir has the distinct advantage of the first to know what the innkeeper is preparing for breakfast as the room is in a direct line to the early morning aromas.

Just beyond the formal dining room on the east side of the main house is the Goodwin guest room. Muted green hues surround the queen size antique brass bed. The room has a private bath and a private porch egress. The sitting porch is outfitted with white iron table and a restful glider.

The ground floor is completed with the previously mentioned immense kitchen to execute the guest book acclaimed breakfasts, event food service, or a potential catering business.

Ascending the front stairway a visitor will encounter the Bluebonnet Suite. This is on the west side of the main house and atop the Walker Suite. It has identical square footage to the Walker Suite below. The two chamber guest choice features a white iron queen size bed and matching daybed, white wicker sofa and matching chair. The suite has access to a private covered balcony.

The final guest room upstairs and rounding out the five offerings is the Blue Room. Airy blue and white décor, Black Pineapple queen size bed, private bath, and an outside private rear entrance describe this tucked away hideaway.

This vintage dwelling has a rare carved out innkeeper’s quarters on the advantageous second floor. Entrances from the top of the front stairs or from the rear stairway opening, aid access to this busy nerve center. The owners claim the entire east side of the second floor. Decked out with two bedrooms, bathroom between the bedrooms, living room, laundry facility for business and personal use, and the coup de grace, a fully accoutered kitchen. This truly is an innkeeper’s apartment, much more than the traditional one bedroom and bath owner’s space.

Sitting on these two city lots is another structure, built at a later date, containing the three car garage, storage, and above the garage, two extended stay bedrooms with private baths, and a non hosted fully equipped kitchen. There is a paved parking area between the two buildings, as well as off street parking on the east side of the main house. The upstairs was renovated in the year 2000.

The spacious kitchen houses a washer and dryer as well as a dining area. Vacationing owners will discover this self contained, detached portion of the business, to be worry free and easily guest managed upon the owner’s absence.

The B&B’s host city is located between Mineral Wells and Abilene. The city is the county seat for Stephens County and has remained so since 1858. “The Mural Capital of Texas” is a Texas and National Main Street city. The “Gateway to Hubbard Creek Lake” was named for the 14th Vice President of the United States and also a Confederate General in the Civil War.

The town grew, by some accounts, to 40,000 during the oil boom from about 1918 to the mid-1920. Although area oil production subsided over the years the county seat continues to be home to many oil related businesses. Additionally many citizens are involved in ranching, raising cattle, goats and sheep on the rocky land of this region.

The community has a hospital, a state technical college, memorial museum, fine arts center, library, nine hole golf course, county airport and of course the large historic murals. The eight or so murals were painted by the talented artist, Billy Ines. He was inspired by the black and white photographs of eccentric and prolific photographer, Basil Clemons. Much of the photographer’s work is now being preserved at the University of Texas, Arlington Campus as well as the local historic memorial museum.

The county provides some of the best hunting in Texas. Seasons for white tailed deer, quail, doves, and wild turkeys bring hunters from throughout the state and elsewhere. The numerous antique shops, malls, diverse and numerous restaurants, clothing and sporting goods stores offer hunting of a different type.

The city hosts County Frontier Days, Polo on the Prairie, Big Bass Bonanza, Texas State Limited Championship Shooting Match, Golf Tournament, Stringer Fishing Tournament, Walker Sayle 5K and 10K Walk and Run, and the traditional Seasonal Tour of Homes.
