PRICE REDUCED! Unique! Historic Michigan Light House Bed and Breakfast for Sale (#2622)

#2622 Unique, historic, Lighthouse Bed &
Breakfast for sale in Central Upper Peninsula offers it all –
four-seasons, land, opportunity, plus a one-of-a-kind setting!
Don't miss this unique opportunity to own a Great Lakes Lighthouse! Perched atop a bluff with a commanding view of Lake Superior, this stately building is still an operational lighthouse, but now functions as a B&B. This conversion means that what once was a fairly staid and functional facility is a now a warm, welcoming environment, with lots of ambiance, rooms and space. And other uses for the building abound - a personal residence, grand cottage, corporate retreat, hunting lodge or an interval-ownership property for a group of friends quickly come to mind. Priced below a million dollars, the lighthouse and its property is one of those rare, once-in-a-lifetime combinations of location, price and historic significance. Its owners are now offering a Lease with Option to Purchase to buyers who meet reasonable financial qualifications.
This B&B’s location is straight out
of Longfellow’s “Song of Hiawatha” - ” by the shores
of Gitche Gumee, by the shining Big-Sea-Water…”! Perched on a
bluff overlooking Lake Superior and the entrance to the local bay, this
two-story lighthouse - with a five-story beacon tower - has a commanding
presence and view. Fabulous sunsets, the spectacular shows of the Aurora
Borealis and gathering squalls crossing the largest of the Great Lakes are
regular features at this B&B! Located in the area of a homicide that was
popularized by the book and movie “Anatomy of a Murder”
(currently celebrating its 50th anniversary), this site is both remote and
accessible. Waterfalls, marked hiking and snowmobile trails, fishing streams
and tall timber inhabit the surrounding region, yet the B&B is only 30
miles from the UP’s main city, a major regional medical center, and a
university.

From the parking lot, guests view, and are only
steps away from, this Historic Register building, which was the 2nd
lighthouse nationally to be converted to a B&B. Green space surrounds the
building, and perennial gardens line the walkway to the entrance. On the
first level there are two Guest Rooms, named (as all are) after former
“Keepers” of the Light. A living room with fireplace, dining
room, small gift shop area, half-bath and the kitchen complete this level.

Wooden staircases lead to the main
building’s second level and the five other Guest Rooms, of differing
sizes and views, one with a jetted tub. At various times one guest room has
been utilized as a massage room. Also located on this level is the Library,
with its reading material, games and guest television, and perhaps most
importantly, the stairs which provide access to the beacon tower.

Climbing the stairs from the Library, one
enters the second level of the tower, which is also the location of the
Finnish Sauna. At this level the tower stairs change from the previous wooden
stairs to winding spiral metal configurations. These continue to the top or
fifth level of the tower, where the Fresnel Lens once stood sentry and
panoramic views of Lake Superior and the area spread out before you.

Owners’ Quarters (OQ) are located in the
lower level of the main building, being partially above / partially below
ground level (sometimes referred to as a “garden apartment”). In
this OQ area are two bedrooms, kitchen, full bath and small living area. Also
in this lower level are the laundry facilities, storage and two furnaces for
the operation. Both furnaces are new and run on propane gas, the operation
having converted from fuel oil in recent years.
Outside there are several outbuildings on the
surrounding grounds including a historic outhouse, gazebo, storage building
and three-car garage. A dock / pier is in the water below the lighthouse,
having once been used to receive boats with supplies, with those goods being
run up a track from the dock using a winch system. Opportunities exist to
utilize these buildings in any variety of ways.

Some of the adjacent land has been subdivided
and is currently being sold as site condominium lots by the current owners,
who will retire in the immediate area. These lots are not a part of the
Lighthouse B&B offering, but all lots – or portions thereof –
could be made part of a purchase as desired.
Unquestionably a unique opportunity in an area
of great natural beauty!
This Michigan
Lighthouse B&B is offered for sale fully furnished and turnkey at
$875,000. Lease with Option to Purchase is also available.
